Course objectives:
There has been considerable progress in reducing poverty over the last decades, but a world free of extreme poverty (SDG 1) is still far from reach. Around 10% of the global population still lives at or below the $2.15 poverty line. How can we progress further, what are the major bottlenecks, and who are the key actors? The course discusses these questions from different scientific perspectives based on recently published books. Participants learn about and reflect on the potential of basic income models, impact and sustainable investment approaches, and China’s development model. Critically discussing books on these topics with various experts from academia and practice will broaden participants’ views on contemporary debated approaches to reducing global poverty and provide opportunities for further development.
